Wintry Mix?

Two days ago, the campus here was all abuzz with talk about snow/sleet/ice and this interesting little thing called a “wintry mix.”

When I first heard that term I told my friend Courtney that it sounded like some sort of dance or event to go to!

Seriously though, doesn’t “wintry mix,” sound WAY more beautiful than it really is?!

Right. So the campus kept talking about the ice that was coming and I was having a really hard time with this. I knew that it wasn’t going to fall all in one sheet of ice {no duh, right?} And I had just seen my first real snow, so I had a concept for how snowflakes fell, but I just could not reconcile the two to get an idea with what sleet was going to be like!

I was semi astonished when we walked outside after a seminar and had the teeny tiniest little hail stones {like the size of a pin head, or smaller,} falling from the sky!

I know that isn’t really revolutionary information to most of you guys, but to me, I was just shocked out of my socks with this experience.

Did I mention that we got 18-22 inches of snow last Saturday, and they are calling for another 14-20 inches of snow this weekend? Wow, we had such a great time in it and I can’t wait to play again!

Ummm....Florida + Snow?!?

I'm sure I've said it a million times before, but I am a Florida girl, through and through.

And when it comes to winter, I'm a big baby.

{though, now that I have my UGGS, all is right in the world.}

And, I think I have mentioned it before, but I've only seen snow once.

And that was when I was in Amman, Jordan.
As in, the Middle East.

Which, incidentally, is the same day I saw these:

So, you could imagine my surprise {and all of the rest of the citizens of Central Florida,} when we saw THIS weather forecast: (look under the description for Tomorrow)

YEAH.

Weird, huh?

I don't really think it's going to happen, just because I just don't think it will stay cold long enough. But, it could be interesting, right?

Beach trip anyone? haha

Who Says Whining Doesn't Pay?

Apparently my whining on here paid off.

I'd been sobbing, whining, and complaining about my impending frozen footsies with a "northern," winter on our near future. I just couldn't figure out how to wear socks with ballet flats without looking completely ridiculous, or, you know, European.

(now, come on. You know those people with sandals and socks at Disney are all mostly European, let's not fool ourselves!)

Tonight, at girls' night, my best friends presented me with a pair of Uggs!

My very own!

It's really a funny story though. The girls contacted my husband in secret, letting them know that they wanted to do this for me. Ian knew my size (really a shocker actually,) and what color I wanted (chocolate brown please,) so they were good to go. I guess they were going to wait until Christmas, but when I started showing signs of premature frostbite, they decided to gift it to me a little early.

Maybe just to shut me up.

hmmmm.

Well, either way! I now (as in sitting in my pj's, blogging,) am wearing my beautiful, new, most expensive pair of shoes I've ever owned.

And I love them.

AND, I love THEM (as in my friends.)

On Hold, and a Little Random

The rest of the Europe Revisited posts will be coming later this week, I promise. For now, I present to you a little brain potpourri (a mish mash of my thoughts) :

Ian and Sam are watching "The Butterfly Effect."

The deranged minds in it made me ill. Seriously.

I had to walk out of the room, however. There is something about seeing the stark possibility of evil in humans that makes me literally sick to my stomach. I remember, as a child (okay, up until age 17 or so,) any lifetime movie depicting a wife beater would throw me inter a complete breakdown. I remember we were watching one with the actress from "Christy," and when her husband started beating her, I just had a meltdown, begging for it to be turned off and crying.

Even thinking about it, and the movie that I just saw a part of, makes me want to throw up. My problem is, that I keep thinking it's going to get better, that they are going to show the good redemption of people, so I don't leave, but, unfortunately, that's not how the real world is/the hollywood producers are.

Jessica and Katie came up for a visit yesterday, and it was absolutely, positively wonderful.
We went out to Moe's for a delicious 5 dollar burrito, then came back and played some Wii while our stomach settled/deflated before we got into our swim suits and lounged by the pool for almost 2 hours!

We came back and made dinner to eat with Ian and Sam, played some Settlers of Catan, the girls left for Orlando, and I fell asleep on the couch watching the boys play wii.

My handsome husband carried me to bed.

:)

Tomorrow afternoon is Ian and my interview for a new job prospect, at 4. It's a three hour long interview/meeting and I am not too nervous-but I am somewhat! We also finally got into contact with the rep in the Middle East, who would be our direct supervisor. I think we have a skype meeting on Friday morning, which will be interesting.

What?!? You haven't tried Skype?

Still?

Seriously?

You need to.

It's free!

Ian and I used Skype for the year when he was overseas and I was here in the states. It's free ( which is why it's fabulous,) and you can see the person you are talking to! It's also really easy to set up! You set up a Skype account just like you would for an AIM account, and make sure you have a web cam and a headphone/mic set, and BAM, you're ready!

I recently conversed with my folks up in TN on it, and let me tell you, it was a hoot!

Tomorrow is my "laundry day," where I plan on ironing about 20 things. Yuck. I hate ironing (right Mrs. Emily!?!)

Friday is a beach day. Can you say "Praise the Lord, Hallelujah?" I can. and it common vocabulary around here come Spring time.

More on Spring Time later.

Saturday is my dear friend, Courtney's, bridal shower! Which begins the real wedding festivities before her May 9th wedding!

Alright. Is your mind confused yet? I hope not. Just a little Potpourri for ya.

Ice, Ice, Baby....

Now, for all of you who live above/withing 200 miles of the Mason Dixon Line, you may not understand this, but trust me, it's the truth.

I am a Florida girl.
It's true.
And it is most apparent in winter, because I just don't know how to cope.

Today, it was 17 degrees when I went to my car. 17!! I could almost double that number and it would STILL be at freezing.

I said ALMOST people. sheesh. I know it's 32 degrees for freezing.

I just really don't know how to deal with cold.

For example, when we were in NC a couple of weeks ago, my friend Courtney and I went for a drive, and by my feet was this contraption. The conversation in my head was as follows:

"Oh what's that?"
"Hmm, it's got a blade!!!"
"Oh, that's good. Courtney has a weapon to defend herself."
"But...a very strange weapon. WHat is it? Not a chinese star, not brass knuckles."
"maybe it's NOT a weapon. Then...um... what is it?"

After about 20 minutes in the car, it dawned on me that it was an ice scraper.
They have tools to scrape away ice.
So weird.

I just take a bottle of water and pour it over my windshield.
Then again, that doesn't really work when it's below freezing, as I found out this past week. Because then the water freezes in a thick sheet on your windshield.

Are you as astonished as I was? Because seriously. I was SHOCKED. Water freezing right before my very eyes.

Today, I wouldn't let my kids go to the library, because it was still in the 20's. On the board, I wrote "No library. Too cold."

They thought that was a crock.
They didn't think it was a crock when they stepped outside for lunch without their jackets.
They ran back in and got their jackets. And hats. And gloves. And scarves. And one kid had a blanket around him.

Plus. 6 of my kids are absent today due to the cold.
They should have just cancelled school.

*Sigh*

I think I might die whenever I move "north."
