Success!

Nagging works!

I kid, I kid....

But, after telling my sweet husband that he should replace his 5 year old laptop with a new one before we moved overseas, and then begging him to, for my sanity, he finally caved.

Only after 20 hours of research into hard drives and processor speeds. He found it very intellectually stimulating for the entire weekend.

{Snore}

And last night, he finally ordered himself a new HP laptop, to be delivered to my folks in TN and then shipped to us in Canada!

(apparently the Canada HP didn't have the one he wanted.)

And for all of you Mac lovers who suggested I join your team....I'm sorry, we just couldn't do it.

I honestly don't like Mac's, and not because of the age old Mac vs PC debate, but because of the interfacing of the the Macs (I loathe it.)

Ian and I both said that if we had a reason to use a Mac (ie we were graphic designers or music composers,) we would snatch one up in a hurry, but for general computing purposes, Mac's just don't make sense to us. Especially since you pay SO much more for a Mac and they usually only last 1 year longer, if that.

So, in the end, I'm one happy woman. We have a new computer on the way and we will then be a two working laptop family!

Wahoo!

New Fangled

Ian and I were just sitting in the computer lab of our training center when a tour group walked by.

{A tour group of mostly twenty 70+ year olds, mind you}

The tour guide paused to explain what was in this room, explaining that us younger people tended to take laptops with us when we headed to the field.

This started an impromptu discussion of technology but one voice rang out to us inside the room

{who were all typing away}

Old Man- "My son just told me that my VCR is outdated! I guess I'll have to get a new one."

{crickets}

REALLY?!?

I'm all for letting older generations hang on to their ways, but shouldn't you at least know that there are new ways? As in, be aware?

Didn't the whole DVD revolution happen over 10 years ago?

Do they even sell VHS?

It made us all crack up inside the room at the humor of the situation.

{and it made me want to go up to them, loveingly pat them on the head and say, "don't worry, it will all be alright!}

Hacker

I just spent the last two hours *hacking* into my father in law's f@cebook account.

*not really hacking, I suppose, since he gave me permission, his sign on, and his password, but I'll use semantics to make me sound cooler.*

You see, my poor DIL* went a little f@cebook tagging crazy. I mean, he was tagging himself in everything! A picture of a dog, a landscape, my bridal portrait (yeah, that one really got me riled up for some reason.)

So I offered to clean up all of his F@cebook photos and to give him a few lessons on tagging and picture rights.

It really got me thinking about how particular we are about unspoken rules online. For example, if someone posts a whole bunch of pictures, it's really not polite to save them to your computer, then upload them as your own.

So unpolite, that it's consider plagiarism, but I won't mention that to my DIL.

Also, profile pictures aren't really supposed to be a collection of pictures you love, they are supposed to, well, you know, profile YOU!

Hopefully the "lessons," go smoothly tomorrow and I can teach with love and grace to the technologically unsavy.

We'll see!

On Hold, and a Little Random

The rest of the Europe Revisited posts will be coming later this week, I promise. For now, I present to you a little brain potpourri (a mish mash of my thoughts) :

____________________
Ian and Sam are watching "The Butterfly Effect."

The deranged minds in it made me ill. Seriously.

I had to walk out of the room, however. There is something about seeing the stark possibility of evil in humans that makes me literally sick to my stomach. I remember, as a child (okay, up until age 17 or so,) any lifetime movie depicting a wife beater would throw me inter a complete breakdown. I remember we were watching one with the actress from "Christy," and when her husband started beating her, I just had a meltdown, begging for it to be turned off and crying.

Even thinking about it, and the movie that I just saw a part of, makes me want to throw up. My problem is, that I keep thinking it's going to get better, that they are going to show the good redemption of people, so I don't leave, but, unfortunately, that's not how the real world is/the hollywood producers are.

Jessica and Katie came up for a visit yesterday, and it was absolutely, positively wonderful.
We went out to Moe's for a delicious 5 dollar burrito, then came back and played some Wii while our stomach settled/deflated before we got into our swim suits and lounged by the pool for almost 2 hours!

We came back and made dinner to eat with Ian and Sam, played some Settlers of Catan, the girls left for Orlando, and I fell asleep on the couch watching the boys play wii.

My handsome husband carried me to bed.

:)

Tomorrow afternoon is Ian and my interview for a new job prospect, at 4. It's a three hour long interview/meeting and I am not too nervous-but I am somewhat! We also finally got into contact with the rep in the Middle East, who would be our direct supervisor. I think we have a skype meeting on Friday morning, which will be interesting.

What?!? You haven't tried Skype?

Still?

Seriously?

You need to.

It's free!

Ian and I used Skype for the year when he was overseas and I was here in the states. It's free ( which is why it's fabulous,) and you can see the person you are talking to! It's also really easy to set up! You set up a Skype account just like you would for an AIM account, and make sure you have a web cam and a headphone/mic set, and BAM, you're ready!

I recently conversed with my folks up in TN on it, and let me tell you, it was a hoot!

Tomorrow is my "laundry day," where I plan on ironing about 20 things. Yuck. I hate ironing (right Mrs. Emily!?!)

Friday is a beach day. Can you say "Praise the Lord, Hallelujah?" I can. and it common vocabulary around here come Spring time.

More on Spring Time later.

Saturday is my dear friend, Courtney's, bridal shower! Which begins the real wedding festivities before her May 9th wedding!

Alright. Is your mind confused yet? I hope not. Just a little Potpourri for ya.

How I Got Started

I know, these past couple of blog posts have not been nearly as entertaining, but I figure a little seriousness is alright everyonce in awhile, as long as yo uare not morose.

The question of HOW I got started blogging goes WAY back.

In fact, it goes back to OVER five years ago! November 17th, 2003 to be exact. I believe my postings that month had to do with my wisdom teeth getting pulled and having to sleep on the floor when family came in for Thanksgiving.

I LOVE love LOVE looking back at those posts because it documents some of my high school and college career. I say 'some' loosely too, because I really only posted 3-4 times a month and some months would have nothing all together!

Oh, right. The story of how it happened. I, um, actually don't know how my Xanga got started, (check it out here) so if you do know, let me know. I think maybe one of my friends started theirs and I followed suit.

Then, about a year ago, I "friended" a woman from church who I vaguely remembered, on facebook, and found a link to her blog on her facebook page. I began reading Kaylyn's blog and it soon became a slight obsession. I just loved that I had a window into someone else's life for the little details, important or non important. Not that I was a blog stalker or anything. Really. Well, I guess it did take me a couple of months to comment on her blog and let her know that I was reading, but that doesn't mean I was a blog stalker....does it?

Oh well. I am fine with blog stalking her, because I fell in L-O-V-E with blogger and how they run. And just in the last few months I really have come to like blogging more and more.

So, that is my story. I have had almost NO frustrations with this site and am so happy at how customizable it is. Really, if I have any blog stalkers right now, come out with it! And join the blogging world.

The End

Tweet-Tweet Twittering

Now, hold on to your britches folks, because I am about to through you through another technological loop.

It's called "Twittering."

What, you ask, is twittering? Well, let me tell you.

It's basically the web's way of letting me talk to myself, and maybe, JUST maybe, you'll get a kick out of it.

Still don't get it? Well that's okay. My lovely Grandma reads this blog so I will explain it in her terms.

See right over to the right side of the screen? It says "Twitter updates." Whenever you come to the blog, make sure you check that column to the right, because I can update that little column SEVERAL times a day, and, (are you ready for this?) I can do it from my phone!

So, when I happen to have really weird things happen to me while at work, or in the store, or while driving... you, dear readers, are going to get to learn of it first hand! I send a text to a special number, and, VOILA, mini side blog of the interesting/not so interesting happenings of my day.

For all of you computer newbies, this is all you need to know.

If you want to take it a step farther, and you have text messaging on your phone, you can get a twitter account and "add," me, and you will get my updates sent to you as texts!!!!

Oh it's so wonderful.

For instance, MckMomma's, a blog I read, had to take her baby boy into the hospital, and I spent some of my morning in prayer for Baby Stellan. But, avast, when I had to make a run to publix, I couldn't very well lug my laptop on my shopping cart. Wouldn't you know though, as I was reaching for two cans of garbonzo beans, my phone beeped! It came, bearing tidings of great joy! Stellan was fine. And I could go about my shopping, feeling relieved and considerably less anxious about the state of this little boy.

Huzzah!

Now, don't you feel like saying Huzzah also?
