Recap 2010- May

May found us settled into a comfortable routine in Canada. I really didn't want to be there, and that is the honest truth. All I wanted was a more "permanent," home and was having a hard time finding some way to establish temporary roots.

All the same, the month was good, fast, and not very interesting! ha!
I took the skytrain all by myself one Saturday morning at 5:30 am. It was completely empty for almost 6 stops. And very creepy. And I might have felt like I was going to be attacked. But it was still a cool experience.
I took the skytrain that early so that I could go downtown and support some friends of ours that were running in a half marathon! It was cold and rainy (hence the reason Ian didn't come, ha!) but one of the runner's wives and I entertained ourselves inside the expo center until the race was finishing up.
We explored Vancouver some more, and started a date night routine during this month. I love those times with Ian, out and about in Vancouver and will cherish them always. We don't get many date nights here because of the little issue of having no where to go! The one sit down restaurant that I told ya'll about 2 weeks ago CLOSED last week :( So now we will just have to wait until we live in another place to have real date nights out. For now, we'll get creative with date nights indoors!
I also made one of my best breakfast creations EVER. Stuffed Banana/Cream Cheese/Nutella French Toast. Only think I would do different would be to whip in a little bit of sugar into the mixture before stuffing it- the cream cheese made it slightly salty.
We also got to go visit a park with a free suspension bridge, trails, rushing river, and "swimming hole." We always meant to go back again for more but ended up running out of time!

Recap 2010- April

April was a very top heavy (or, I guess, front heavy,) month for us.

My sister's wedding festivities were in the first week,

with her wedding rehearsal on the 3rd:
Rehearsal dinner later that night:
And wedding on the 4th! My sister made a beautiful bride and we were so excited to welcome our new brother, Ryan, into the family!
Just three days later, Ian and I said goodbye to my parents and got on a plane headed for Vancouver, Canada!
We arrived in our new home wet, cold, and tired, falling asleep while we waited for our "lost," luggage to be delivered. 24 hours later, we were unpacked and settled in (after all, we really didn't have that much to unpack, ha!)
The rest of the month was spent hanging out with some friends and their families:
Learning more about the cultures that were in Vancouver, including a variety of new foods,

and exploring the city itself and all the beauty it had to offer.
I also really got into photography this month. Exploring new places and being around really adorable kids helped me to learn alot this month!

Recap 2010- March

March flew by in a whirlwind of activities. We were now familiar and comfortable in our new home, had made good friends that kept us entertained, and all the while we knew our time was wrapping up.
In early March, I threw my sister a bridal shower in DC. Filled with cupcakes, flowers, and delicious food, I was so happy to finally have a chance to partake in the traditional pre wedding festivities.
Our good friends John and Onastazia came out to visit us on campus and we spent the afternoon catching up, eating, and playing some frisbee golf.
We took a day trip into DC to do some touristy type things, including eating at a Moroccon restauarant and visiting a museum.
We had church outside, on the grounds of a gorgeous park, and loved worshiping together with fellow believers.
And then the goodbyes came. Our time wrapped up so quickly and suddenly we were looking ahead to the next major move (Canada!)
But, before that could happen, we make the long drive from Virginia to Florida to do some repacking, and I surprised my best friends at church!
Then, the saddest part. Ian parted with his first (and only,) car, his 2001 Honda Accord. His dad offered to find us a buyer so we left it with him and hit the road in a rented car and our few worldly possessions for Tennessee (72 hours after making it to Florida! crazy!)
In Tennessee, my mom and I worked on my sister's wedding arrangements and on a few house projects.

Recap 2010- February

February found us settled into our new home in Virginia, making new friends, and learning so much about our new jobs.

Our days were spent in a classroom/seminar environment from 9 am until 4 pm, dinner at 5, and homework, social, and free time in the evening. All meals were in the campus' cafeteria nad we loved having meals with different families each night.

I fell in love with little red haired "J," and took every chance I could to babysit and photograph him!
Ian learned the fine art of "digging out," of snow, as we got a total of almost 4 feet over two weekends.
Our cookies arrived for us and some friends (not all for us!) and we loved one last chance of this late winter "tradition."
I took a Saturday to drive into Washington DC to see my sister. I got to go with her to her wedding dress fitting which was so special, especially since I wasn't able to be by her side for all of the wedding planning.
My friend Raphaela visited! We showed her our campus then she and I went shopping for the afternoon. So good to get to see her again!
We began the {somewhat} painful process of getting medically ready to move overseas. Three different vaccination days (2-5 vaccines a day) and the week long typhoid pills. My pills made me really sick for the week, which was not fun!

Recap 2010- January

As I look back over the past year, my breath is taken away by how much has changed. I've changed, my "home," has changed (four times in 2010!) and my outlook on many things has changed. I've made new friends, been new places, and done new things.

I've seen several of you do a sort of recap of your year, month by month, and I thought I would do my take on what 2010 looked like to me.

It was filled with laughter and smiles, tear and bittersweet goodbyes, and more love than you can shake a sock at.
Because I really wouldn't shake a stick at anything.
But a sock, maybe.
January found Ian and I living back with his parents outside of Orlando, Florida, where we grew up and where most of our closest friends still reside. After 8 months of unemployment, with 4 months living with my parents up in Nashville, where we had nothing to do and no friends to be with, it was so refreshing to be back "home!"

We had a New Year's party (pictures are no where to be found. Weird.) and went to a comedy club with some of my best girl friends.

Ian said goodbye to his BFF, Sam.
We spent copious amount of time with Ian's parents in the theme parks in Orlando, one last "hurrah," I suppose.
My friends threw me a surprise birthday party, one month early. I was so touched and will always remember that!
I spent some time with my favorite kids and also realized how much weight I had put on (Seriously, this picture shows me at my largest, and I had been doing the 30 day shred for almost a month at this point and had changed my eating habits! I just showed Ian this picture and said "what did I look like one month earlier when I wasn't doing any of that?" Well, that's what 8 months of unemployment and 4 months of living in a place where you have no friends and nothing to do will do to you! Plus a ton of bad food decisions!)
On 0ur roadtrip up to our job training, we stopped in for a couple of days with my dear friend Courtney! We spent time in a park, sipped hot cocoa, and enjoyed each others' company for a day or two.

Finally, 6 months after receiving the horrible news that our company did not have the funds to move us overseas and we were essentially wait listed, we arrived in Virginia for two months of training. We settled into our lovely little "quad," where Ian and I finally had a place of our own, eight months after moving in with our parents.

In January, I also experienced my first snow, first time sledding, and first time snow tubing. It was SO beautiful and I will always remember that hushed morning when I woke up and watched almost a foot of snow fall within one hour!

January wrapped up with us being happily settled into our new {temporary} home, with us meeting new friends, and learning more about our job to come.

Christmas Break and a Chance to Breathe

We finished our language school week early this week. After only a three day week, Ian and I came home and absolutely collapsed.

I took a four hour nap, because, obviously, that's a great plan.

Ian played a video game and zoned out reading online news.

Mac and cheese for dinner (one of five sacred boxes,) book reading, and talking to my momma.

And that, my friends, is how we kicked off the Christmas break 2010.

We don't really have great plans for Christmas break or Christmas itself, but we are so happy to have a change of pace for six days.

I fully intend on making copious amounts of christmas cookies (chocolate candy cane, snickerdoodles, and sugar cut outs,) watching my way through many episodes of Alias, season one (my friend here lent me the season,) and making headway on Baby Girl's baby blanket. I'm crocheting it and I really want to make progress. Now I'm just hoping I brought enough of this color to complete it, after all, I've only ever made a scarf, ha!

Ian had an exciting moment yesterday- he finally felt baby girl kick! It was such a sweet moment. We were snuggled in bed after a rather stressful day and Ian was reading Peter Rabbit to my belly (aka the baby.) He had his hand resting on my lower belly and when she kicked I saw him flinch (in a good way. He hadn't ever responded before when she kicked and he was trying to feel it,) so I knew that he felt something. He felt 2 more kicks and then was sufficiently satisfied that our daughter wasn't giving him the cold shoulder.

I hope those of you on breaks are enjoying your time off, and I hope that everyone who doesn't get a real break has a non stressful, holiday joy filled week!

23 and 24 Weeks

How far along? 24 Weeks, Though I missed doing my 22 and 23 week update, so this is a sort of hodge podge of what has gone on.

Total weight gain: As of my last Dr.'s appointment, 2 weeks ago, I'm up five pounds. I have a sneaking suspicion that I'll be up another 5-10 pounds this coming appointment, due to extreme hunger, and, you know, holiday gluttony.

Baby Bump? Oh yes. It's definitely apparent I'm pregnant now!

(Baby Girl and I, at 23 weeks!)

Maternity clothes? I finally got a second pair of maternity jeans, and I wear the two pairs every day. I've been given a couple of maternity shirts from people and will probably be living in those soon!

Cravings: Bread! and Milk! Both help my heartburn.

Symptoms: Really bad back pain. The kind that brings me to tears, doubles me over, and/or keeps me laying down as much as possible. I keep telling myself it's all worth it for our daughter (and it totally is!) but man, does it hurt!

Stretching, walking, heating pads, tylenol, and massages aren't keeping it at bay. Boo.

And...the heartburn. Starting in week 23, I noticed I would have heartburn for the 2-3 hours after breakfast. I have some antacids but I try not to take medicine at the first sign of pain, so I just let it run its course each day.

Then, starting about 3 days ago, it's all the time, 24 hours a day. Bleh. I've cut out citrus, chocolate (kind of,) tomatoes, tea, and coffee but it wasn't really helping. I just figured out today that milk is the only thing that really helps. I drink 4-8 ounces as an appetizer and as a chaser for each meal. ha!(baby girl and I, side view, 24 weeks.)

Sleep: The nap is making a come back! I am so tired by the time school is over and I relish those 30-45 minutes a day that I get to nap. Sleep at night is solid though, and I love that!

Best moment this week: Seeing baby kick from the outside!

Movement: Yes, all of the time! I think her schedule is something like 11 am, 2 pm, 6 pm, and 11 pm. I'm not sure about an early morning one, though I often feel her move for a minute or two right when I get up at 8!

Ian still hasn't been able to feel her, even though I can feel her from the outside. He gets really bummed and frustrated, and I'm starting to think that his fingertip nerves must be totally deadened.

Gender: GIRL! We are so excited to welcome our daughter into our arms.

Belly Button in or out? In, and not really bulging or anything.

What I miss: Not feeling huge. I really feel big right now and I know I'm just going to get bigger!(front view, 24 weeks)

Weekly Wisdom: Making wise financial choices now will help things when baby girl makes her entrance. We were supposed to be taking a real vacation to Jordan in January, but due to some circumstances, I'm not sure we're going to be able to make it :( When we sat down and talked about it though, we realized that the money we were going to spend on plane tickets, activities, and food would more than cover her crib, changing table, and possibly her wardrobe! I'm not sure if we'll have to buy all of that ourselves, but we definitely need to be saving in case we do!

Milestones: Reaching viability week! I'm not sure our hospital here would actually be able to keep her alive, but it's still a milestone, nonetheless!
